DIY| J. Crew Inspired Rope Necklace

Today’s post is probably one of the most exciting mini announcements that I’ve made in a long time. Particularly because I made my first… DIY tutorial!

But first let me tell you all about why I created this project. A few weeks ago I was browsing the J. Crew website and came across a ridiculously cute rope necklace. Apparently I wasn’t the only one that thought it was super cute- dripping with nostalgic memories of friendship bracelets sprinkled in crystals and opaque stones for a bit of charm. Ugh. Sometimes I wish online shopping was for my eyes only! Just when I started to review the details, I saw the message that no one wants to read or hear: “We’re sorry. The item has been so popular that it is sold out. We’ve got other great ideas, just call us!”

No, no, no, no, no. Darn!

Already pressed for time, I thought wow, were these in limited quantity or did I really have the same chic taste as everyone else?  But after looking at the necklace more intently, I decided that I could make my own version as homage to the necklace that got away!

So here it is! What do you think? It’s not exactly the same as the picture but I am quite happy with it- especially since it cost me under $10 to make! *ahem* $8 to be exact. I used the same colours but bigger stones for a noticeable statement necklace. As you can see no clouds in my stone *Jay Z voice*. I’m shining.

I pulled this dress from my closet that I sewed back in my college while attending F.I.T. like *coughs* more than 10 years ago…so I haven’t worn it since. I love how the material is breathable and full of colour and texture! It’s very reminiscent of Missoni’s distinctive knitwear pattern, but I assure you I didn’t pay Missoni prices for it {^_^}.

If you’re interested, in making the necklace, be sure to check out the tutorial on my YouTube channel asap! Subscribe and let me know if you’ve made your own statement necklace. The video is also closed captioned for all of my deaf and hard of hearing friends- I stayed up all night manually transcribing the entire video for everyone to enjoy!

Tweet, tag or leave a comment showing me your fab creations on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook or YouTube. {^_^}.
