5 Nail Polishes You Should Try Now

We’re well into fall and I’m still too busy layering my sweaters and tracking down my favorite pair of suede boots to realize that I’ve GOT to trade in my summer nail polishes for autumnal colours. The other day I looked in my bathroom cabinet and all I could find were hot pink and tangerine nail polishes. Really? It’s been that long, eh? Truthfully sometimes I don’t even paint my nails because I’m either too busy to sit still and dry them or I have an projected fear that they’ll chip off and crack at the most inconvenient moments whether it be at work, filming a DIY video or just a simple Instagram pic where there’s a close up of my hands. Manicure nightmare.

But one of the best parts of fall and the holiday season is spicing up your nail game which always makes my skin pop even more after I’ve lathered up on lotion. I went on the hunt for the perfect hues that will pair brilliantly with anyone’s fall wardrobe for you *and me* because even I get stuck in a rut sometimes and need more polish options. Plus, spending a few minutes in a drug store aisle to update your inventory is an affordable way to pump life into your fall wardrobe. Here are my nail picks for the season!

Burgundy

Known for its deep rich wine colour, Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel in Wine Stock is the perfect jewel tone staple in a line-up of fall hues. I can see myself rocking this polish with a dark berry lip for a nostalgic 90’s look along with a pair of combat boots and a plaid shirt tied around the waist. It’s one of those colours that is incredibly vibrant from the very first coat that will give you that unexpected pop of colour with any outfit that you wear.

Purple

OPI Nail Lacquer is considered one of the most durable and longest lasting nail polish brands available. Their O Suzi Mio polish is part of the Venice collection for fall 2015 which blends another 90’s grunge trend with chic style without being too overt. Capturing the vivid color seen on today’s runways, OPI Nail Lacquer is sure to compliment your look for day or night.

Metallic

Sparkles in a bottle is a must-have for me because it reminds me of pyrite (aka Fool’s Gold) when I use to collect rocks as a kid. Revlon’s Fiery Temptress Collection in Untamed not only gives off a shimmery effect, but it has several different hues that complement a variety of wardrobe looks on the go. Unlike chunky globs of glitter that are usually rough to the touch and snag on your favorite sweater, these refined sparkles are double the fun for everyday wear and for holiday events. It’s the perfect amount of shimmer for night and day.

Grey

Nothing goes better with black leather and neutral turtlenecks than Essie’s nail lacquer Bathroom Cashmerea true dovetail grey. The sophisticated finish is reminiscent of smoke embers and heather grays knits for a classic and radiant shine. Warm up to this versatile colour that is both dangerously lustrous and refined yet endearing and soft and you’ll never want to take it off.

Nude

Nudes are a classic and will forever remain a popular favorite through any season. Coffee Break, from the ORLY collection,  is giving me this 70’s vibe that I’m feeling which so happens to be trending right now on the runways and magazines. It’s a great neutral for brown and sun kissed skin that will look great with worn leathers and fringe skirts- a perfect way to enhance your leather accessory pieces.

These five beauties can be used to kick start your transition from fall to winter or be the perfect stocking stuffer for the holidays!
